Sunday Sept. 2nd
A little more detail on "gotcha day" ...
After a relatively
sleepless night we flew from Hong Kong to Nanchang on Sunday, with the Foote
family, where we were greeted by our awesome CCAI guide Evelyn. On the way to
the hotel, the Crowne Plaza Nanchang Riverside Hotel, Evelyn filled us in on
our itinerary for the week and when the babies would arrive. She also gave us a
few helpful hints about different situations we may find ourselves in when
meeting our little ones.
The fact that we were
actually only hours away from seeing our daughter for the first time seemed so
surreal. Our emotions were kind of all over the place – excited, nervous,
scared and elated all at the same time. We tried to imagine how that first
meeting would go. When she was handed to us would she scream and cry? Would she
shut down? Would she laugh and giggle? We were prepared for the worst and
praying for the best.
It seems like we couldn’t
have been checked in for more than 20 minutes or so when we got the call that
Evelyn was on her way up to our room with the Director of the Orphanage and
Emily. We barely had time to get the gifts for the orphanage director and the nannies
and get out some toys before they arrived.
The whole thing was really
kind of simple. They walked in handed Emily to me, took a couple of pictures
and left. She didn’t cry, scream or laugh. We sat on the bed and began trying
to play with her and little by little we caught a little smile and then we got
some laughs. We finally had her and six years of waiting was over. She is perfect!
Monday it would be made
official as far as the Chinese government was concerned.

WOW! So simple!!!! You didn't even have to leave your room. How cool was that?? I get all teary-eyed when I think of you finally having Emily in your arms. After all this time ... she is yours! And you are hers!!! God is good!
