Friday 9/14/12
Our trip home did not start out so hot and didn't get a whole lot better once we boarded the plane.
When we arrived at the airport to check in there was a problem with the way our tickets were booked because of Emily's lap ticket. After 45 minutes and 2 ticket agents (one with a major attitude about the "new system") we were headed to our gate. Unfortunately the flight home was booked to capacity so the dream of having some extra space was quickly dashed.
Once we boarded the plane we were hoping that Emily would settle down and sleep for at least part of the flight. Wishful thinking! Emily is a restless sleeper. She rolls around quite a bit until she is hits REM sleep. Meaning that being confined to one small airplane seat wasn't going to cut it! Needless to say mommy and Emily stood for about 13 hours of the 15 hour flight.
By the time we landed in Chicago, for our 7 hour layover which turned into a 9.5 hour layover, we were exhausted. So we had lunch and found an empty terminal to try and get some sleep. Moving from terminal to terminal we kind of felt homeless, lol. The good news about Chicago was that Emily became an American citizen the minute we landed!
We finally pulled into Tampa International at about 1:00 AM and to our surprise we had a bunch of people waiting there to welcome us home. It was such a wonderful thing to see those faces after the day we had. Thanks Mom, Joan (Matt's mom) and Rich, Melissa, Jeni, Cathi and Chris!
It was a long and exhausting flight but so worth it because we finally had our daughter home!
Just a little Saturday afternoon jet lag recovery ;o)
